Plant in Soil
Most life on earth depends upon the soil for food. Soil provides nutrients for plants that allow them to grow, and animals get nutrients from eating the plants. Farmers have very important jobs growing food for the world. Farmers must take good care of the soil so we can continue to grow enough good food for everyone.
Sometimes farmers need to rotate crops and add fertilizers to provide the proper nutrients to grow a healthy crop. Conventional farmers also use pesticides (chemicals) to keep unwanted insects and plants away. Those chemicals often wind up in the food we eat. Organic farmers limit the use of manufactured chemicals and find other means of keeping pests away. If you plant a garden, what kind of fertilizers will you use, and what will you do to keep pests away?
